MIRANDA SHIRLEY
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
Miranda Shirley is a Training Manager and Instructional Designer with a background that spans multiple industries, including forestry, banking, retail, cinema operations, IoT, and mining. Across every role, one theme remained consistent, a passion for helping people learn.
Long before formally entering the learning and development field, Miranda naturally became the person creating onboarding materials, job aids, and practical resources to help teams build confidence and capability. This included leading training initiatives during major organisational change, such as supporting a banking software transition through the development of scenario-based manuals, live training rollouts, onboarding materials, and ongoing support for more than 15 branches.
Originally pursuing studies in psychology, Miranda later formalised her passion for education by earning a degree in Instructional Design, recognising that creating meaningful learning experiences had already become central to her career.
For more than six years, Miranda has worked closely with the mining and natural resources sector, designing practical, engaging learning experiences across topics including risk management, sustainability, governance, and responsible mining. Her role keeps her in the position of a lifelong learner, continually exploring new subject areas and better ways to connect with learners.
Miranda’s approach is grounded in one principle: learning should always be learner-centred. She believes effective training meets people where they are, translates complex topics into practical understanding, and creates learning experiences that feel relevant, accessible, and useful in the real world.
